Five For Friday- 11/13

My favorite link up of the week with DoodleBugs Five For Friday

This week went by so fast!

What "KIND" of Turkey Are You?
For Kindness Week and Thanksgiving we decorated our bulletin board with turkeys made with coffee filters that were colored with markers and then sprayed with water. Students then use popplet to write different ways they could be kind or show kindness.

We have been learning about owls this week during our writing time. Students made a popplet to organize facts about owls and used that to then write an opening sentence, facts and a closing sentence. Students then published their writing using microsoft word. Students also watercolor painted an owl to go with it.

For phonics this week we worked on sorting ending sounds and patterns in words.

We had a wonderful Veteran's Day Assembly at our school this week.

I've said this many times, but DonorsChoose is pretty amazing! I had a chrombook fund this week that I will be able to add to my classroom. OshKosh B'Gosh funded my project. My students are going to be so excited!
Basically if you've not looked into donorschoose.org, you should!

Thanks for listening to my randomness for the week!

Five For Friday! 4/3

Five For Friday 4/3

First off, let's all take a look at what I looked like when I left school this afternoon....

Now we can see what my week before Spring Break looked like....

EGG HUNT
We had an Addition Subtraction Egg Hunt!
My FREEBIE of math problems for the egg hunt is above, just click on the cover of the product.

My students made "Easter Egg Baskets" from K-Cup boxes that I saved up over time. We cut the top off of the boxes and let them paint the box. We then poked holes in the side and attached some ribbon for a handle. We also added their names to the boxes that I printed out on colored paper with Mod Podge.

These are small baskets, but should be perfect for our class egg hunt.

We water color painted flowers and wrote sight words on them to create a "Sight Word Garden" for the hallway.

We have been discussing synonyms and we want to start using more interesting words while writing so this is just the beginning of our Wall Thesaurus.
I love that one student came up with "itty bitty" for little and he was adamant that it should go on the thesaurus because his grandmother says it all the time instead of saying little.

For April Fools Day, Koo Koo Kangaroo added a new video on GoNoodle called Just Kidding. The kids loved this new video and laughed the whole time.

We ended the week with a Field Trip to the PAC (Performance Arts Center) to see one of the high schools in our county perform The Wizard of Oz. It was really great and the perfect way to end the week before Spring Break!

I hope you enjoyed our randomness from the week!

Five for Friday

Five for Friday

I had lots of fun this week with Read Across America Week! We dressed up each day according to a school theme and had a Book Parade Friday!

My class dressed up as Olivia by Ian Falconer. I told the boys to wear red and they were Oliver...or Olivia's brother Ian. My Para dressed up and another teacher and para dressed up as The Three Little Pigs.

We read If I Ran the Zoo and then students water color painted their own animals and wrote a description of their animals. We are learning about animals in our science unit at the moment, so this lesson was perfect!

We read one of my favorite books, If I Built a House by Chris Van Dusen. I then gave students papers to draw their house and some students asked for more than one paper while others completed theirs on one. Students then wrote to tell about each fun room in their house. One little girl made a Hello Kitty House, many girls had a make-up room with lip gloss, and they liked the part of the book with a huge slide so many incorporated that into their house as well.

Math Consultant came to video tape a lesson this week and we were playing Drop It Like It's Hot! Lots of fun. Next week we meet as a grade level to watch the videos and reflect.

New bookshelf from donorschoose!
I really enjoy using donorschoose to acquire much needed resources for my classroom and this week my new book shelf was delivered.
